Reach, 2008 37" x 50" SOLD Juried into SAQA: Transformations ’09 – Festival of Quilts Birmingham, England, August 14-17, 2009, plus traveling show for 1 year Exhibited at Taiwan International Quilt Exhibition (invitational), Tainan City, Taiwan, March 25 - April 8, 2009. I am facinated by the highlights and shadows that appear upon twisting and unfurling foliage in spring. Each year plants strive to reach their full potential after a period of dormancy. This quilt is inspired by a photograph of tulip foliage that I shot in Spring 2007. A year later the quilt comes to fruition as I strive to reach my potential as a full-time artist and teacher. Fabrics hand-dyed by artist and some commercial batiks.

Opening Act, 2007 48" x 39" Private Collection 500 Art Quilts, 2010 Juried into "Off the Wall" at the Grand National Quilt Show, Homer Watson Gallery, Kitchener, Ontario, 2010. Juried into Art Quilts at the Chandler, Chandler, Arizona, 2009. Juried into Quiltscapes at the Whistler, Whistler House Museum of Art , 2009. Chosen as a Finalist in the International Quilters Association Spring Judged Show, "Celebrate Spring", Chicago, Illinois. This quilt travelled with a special exhibit of "Celebrate Spring" quilts to IQA shows in Long Beach, California and Houston, Texas in 2008. Juried into the Montreal Centre for Contemporary Textiles 2007. Selected for the "Excellence for Innovative Small Wall Quilt" award at the National Juried Show, Canadian Quilters' Association, 2007. A stunning close-up photograph I shot during a visit to Prince Edward Island provided the inspiration for this quilt. I managed to capture the dramatic highlights and shadows of Hosta leaves unfurling after a spring rain. During their "opening act" the luscious leaves respond to the rain that nourishes them and begin to unfold to the longer, warmer days ahead. The unfurling hostas are a metaphor for a 45 year old woman's "opening act" as she discovers who she truly is and that she is comfortable and confident in her own skin.
