Autumn Quilts

Fallen , 2001

Close-up View

49" x 38"

$1,500

I love the look of a wash of colour moving from light to dark values across the surface of a quilt. I have tried to capture the feeling in autumn where the trees almost seem to glow. Inspired by a random-pieced autumn quilt called "Autumn Alternatives" by Bonnie Tinling, in Joen Wolfrom's Color Play, 2000. I started playing and created my own blocks. I used my backing fabric, which features autumn leaves, as the pattern for my free-motion machine quilting. Quilted back-to-front

Birches at Pink Lake, 2001

Close-up View

22" x 26"

$500.00

Inspired by a photograph I took at Pink Lake, in Gatineau Park, on an October weekend. I found the perfect fabrics in my stash to interpret the picture. Using small snippets of fabric with a tulle overlay I created the glowing golden leaves worn by birch trees in autumn.

Before They Fall, 2000

40" x 39"

$1,600

I wanted to create an impressionist type landscape of my favorite season. The colourwash technique seemed a perfect choice. Colourwash involves cutting up many patterned fabrics into small squares and working on a design wall to create a picture. Imagine yourself walking along a path with brightly-coloured autumn leaves hanging overhead, and you are looking across at hills of red, gold and orange.

Last Tango, 2001

Leaves perform one last dance in the wind before falling to the ground. Inspired by Debbie Wertmann's quilt, "Fall Folly, in Joen Wolfrom's book "Make Any Block Any Size".
